In addition to the severe weather, a gridlock alert is in effect due to the World Cup match at MetLife Stadium. Match day shuttle corridors will be implemented, restricting certain streets to official vehicles and emergency personnel. Streets near Penn Station, including 33rd Street between 7th and 8th Avenues, will also face closures.
Further complicating commutes, Penn Station will have limited access. NJTransit service will be exclusively for World Cup ticket holders between 3:20 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Monday, June 22. Station access will also be restricted around 10 p.m., adding to the travel challenges.
