In the wake of a fatal collision between an Air Canada Express flight and a firetruck at New York's LaGuardia Airport, a nurse on board shared her experience of survival and quick action. The incident occurred as Flight 8646 was attempting to land, striking a firetruck responding to another situation. The high-force impact crumpled the front of the passenger jet.
Tragically, two pilots aboard the aircraft perished in the crash. Thirty-nine passengers, along with two firefighters on the firetruck, sustained injuries and were transported to hospitals. Many of these individuals have since been released. Aviation officials are currently investigating the exact circumstances leading to the collision.
Registered nurse Rebecca Liquori, seated in an emergency exit row, recalled the severe turbulence during descent and the moments leading up to the impact. Hearing a grinding noise followed by the collision, she feared for her life and thought of her family. After the jolt, she immediately sprang into action, assisting a man with a head wound and then working with another passenger to open an emergency exit for evacuation.
