A registered nurse from Utah has shared the harrowing details of trying to save a woman fatally attacked by a shark while snorkeling in the Caribbean. Chris Carroll was on vacation in St. Croix when he heard screams and rushed to the beach, initially believing someone was drowning.
Upon reaching the water, Carroll discovered the victim, Arlene Lillis, 56, was the victim of a shark attack. He stayed with her, offering reassurance and comfort as she sustained massive blood loss. Emergency responders arrived, but Lillis tragically succumbed to her injuries.
Carroll later received a call from Lillis's daughter, thanking him for being with her mother. This call eased his guilt, as the daughter shared that her mother hated being alone, and in her final moments, she was not. Carroll reflected on the importance of connection and reaching out to those in need.
