Severe weather conditions are exacerbating the situation. Much of eastern New South Wales is under a total fire ban due to extreme heatwave warnings affecting numerous districts, including Sydney. Forecasts predict temperatures reaching up to 43 degrees Celsius in Sydney.
In response to the escalating crisis, Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has declared a state of emergency, with three significant fires active across the state and a statewide total fire ban in effect. Authorities are advising residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor exposure, and monitor emergency alerts.
