Power Returns to NE Mississippi After Storm
15 Feb
Summary
- Nearly all residents have power back after three weeks.
- Over 200 customers still without power as of Friday morning.
- State and federal emergency declarations aid cleanup efforts.

Three weeks after Winter Storm Fern impacted Northeast Mississippi, power has been restored to nearly all residents. As of Friday morning, only about 200 customers with Northeast Mississippi Electric Power Association and 33 in Tippah County remained without power. Keith Hayward, CEO of Northeast EPA, estimated that the majority of these outages would be fixed by the end of Friday.
The focus has shifted to the cleanup phase, with utility crews addressing broken power lines and supporting debris removal efforts. Local municipalities, the state, and the federal government have declared states of emergency, which enables emergency spending and opens pathways for reimbursement of cleanup costs. County officials are awaiting responses from FEMA and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency to determine reimbursement percentages.
