Norman Police Sgt. Justin Hackbarth sustained critical injuries on December 11th when he was struck by a vehicle on State Highway 9, west of 108th Avenue SE. The officer was outside his patrol unit attending to a separate incident involving a speeding driver.
Another motorist, attempting to avoid the initial wreck, collided with Sgt. Hackbarth. The highway was closed for several hours following the collision, with significant debris reported at the scene. Fortunately, no other individuals were injured.
An update on December 23rd revealed that Sgt. Hackbarth has been transferred from intensive care to a long-term care facility. He continues to be in serious but stable condition, showing progress in his recovery.
