Born in Nepal and with a background in the British Army, Purja transitioned to mountaineering, quickly ascending notable peaks. He has recently faced allegations of sexual misconduct, which he has denied through his legal representative.
In a recent social media post prior to the incident, Purja mentioned an unplanned addition to his expedition, aiming to climb Broad Peak after successfully summiting Gasherbrum II on July 21. He acknowledged the risks involved, stating his intention to seek safe passage and that he takes no mountains for granted.
