According to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, two individuals were walking when they were struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and continued to flee the scene.
Tragically, one person succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The second victim was transported to a hospital and is currently in critical condition. Authorities later discovered a damaged car beneath an overpass near Route 22, but it remains unconfirmed if this vehicle was involved in the fatal crash.
