A new voluntary search and rescue organization, Humberside Search and Rescue (HUMBSAR), has been established to support police operations in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire. This initiative, a partnership between HFR Solutions CIC and Humberside Police, will deploy trained volunteers to aid in locating vulnerable missing individuals.
The HUMBSAR team, which is currently recruiting its initial 50 volunteers, will be based at Humberside Fire and Rescue Service's headquarters in Hessle. Volunteers will receive training and be alerted to incidents through a mobile phone application, maintaining communication with law enforcement via issued radios.
The objective is to create a 24/7, 365-days-a-year capability to assist the police and safeguard communities. This professional, community-focused approach aims to make a significant positive impact across the region, addressing the critical need highlighted by the 160,000 people reported missing annually in the UK.
Charity Missing People welcomed the establishment of HUMBSAR, emphasizing the vital role such professionally trained volunteer teams play in safely and quickly locating vulnerable missing persons. The service is deemed essential for reducing harm and ensuring timely support for those in need.
