Nepal Tragedy: 84 TN Families Await News Amidst Ongoing Rescue

As of September 1, 2026, 84 individuals from Tamil Nadu are still missing after a recent tragedy in Nepal, intensifying anxiety for their families. A total of 305 people from the state had journeyed to Nepal, with 220 now confirmed safe. Efforts are actively underway to locate the remaining 84 individuals.
The Tamil Nadu government has intensified its efforts to trace and bring back stranded citizens. Minister Aadhav Arjuna stated that 21 pilgrims who traveled through a Kumbakonam agency have returned safely. However, contact has not yet been established with 49 pilgrims who used a Chennai-based agency.
To facilitate rescue and repatriation, the Chief Minister had previously dispatched a ministerial team to Delhi for coordination with the Centre. The state's Resident Commissioner in Delhi has also been instructed to travel to Nepal to expedite these crucial efforts. The Centre is reportedly in touch with Chinese and Tibetan administrations regarding missing individuals.
