Tamil Pilgrims Stranded in Nepal Floods

A total of 103 pilgrims from Tamil Nadu are currently stranded in Nepal due to flash floods that occurred in the Bhote Koshi river. The situation is critical as the whereabouts of 34 individuals remain unknown. In response, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has convened an emergency meeting and dispatched the resident commissioner to Kathmandu to manage relief and rescue efforts. Ministers have been assigned to a command center in New Delhi to liaise with the central government for swift evacuation.

Authorities confirmed that 20 people have already escaped the floods and are being moved to Kathmandu. The state government is actively collaborating with Nepalese officials, receiving hourly updates. Round-the-clock helplines have been activated for the families of missing pilgrims, with 937 calls received thus far. Chief Secretary and DGP are finalizing evacuation protocols, while a rehabilitation director will manage logistics for transporting rescued individuals back to their hometowns. Medical and psychological support teams are prepared to assist evacuees upon their return.
