A devastating hit-and-run incident on Slane Road in Navan has claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl. The tragic event occurred on Saturday evening around 8:20 PM. The vehicle involved failed to stop at the scene, leaving the pedestrian fatally injured.
Following the incident, the girl was transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where she was sadly pronounced dead. An Garda Siochana reported the arrest of a man in his 20s in connection with the investigation. The car suspected to be involved has been seized for thorough technical and forensic examination.
The man is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in the Eastern Region. Investigations are ongoing, and diversions remain in place around the Slane Road as forensic teams conduct their work. Gardai are appealing for any witnesses, particularly those with video footage from the area between 8:00 PM and 8:45 PM on Saturday, to contact Navan Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line.
