1 Mar
Summary
- Leaders partnered to create a fund for storm recovery efforts.
- Over $2 million was raised for families impacted by the storm.
- Nonprofit leaders emphasized community partnership and service.

Following Winter Storm Fern's impact on Nashville in late January, key nonprofit leaders collaborated to establish a crucial financial lifeline. Hal Cato, CEO of the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee (CFMT), and Erica Mitchell, CEO of the United Way of Greater Nashville (UWGN), initiated the Winter Storm Recovery Fund.
This partnership demonstrated a shared vision for community service. Cato, who previously founded Hands On Nashville, recalled past disasters, while Mitchell focused on strengthening community ties. Their collaboration aimed to leverage each organization's strengths for effective relief.
By February 23, the fund had successfully raised over $2 million from regional nonprofits and businesses. Of this amount, $312,449 was promptly distributed to 343 families, providing immediate assistance after the storm's destructive path through the city.
