In a tragic incident on Monday, an SUV carrying three individuals veered off the Bhowali road near the Pines area in Nainital, plunging into a deep gorge approximately 120 meters below. The accident resulted in one fatality and two injuries among the occupants.
Preliminary investigations by the police suggest the driver may have momentarily dozed off, leading to a loss of control. Rescue operations were promptly conducted by a joint team of police, SDRF, and fire services to extricate all three individuals from the chasm.
The injured were transported to BD Pandey District Hospital in Nainital for immediate medical attention. Tragically, one of the occupants, identified as 21-year-old Rahul Kumar from Haldwani, was pronounced dead by doctors during treatment. The two survivors, Arvind Singh (24) and Yuvraj Singh (20), both residents of Jodhpur, Rajasthan, are currently receiving care at the hospital.
Following the incident, local residents voiced their frustration, alleging a significant delay in the ambulance's arrival, reportedly taking close to an hour. Authorities have been notified of the accident via Dial 112, and the families of those involved have been informed.
