A significant chlorine gas leak from a 900-kg cylinder at the Godhani village water treatment plant in Nagpur caused alarm among local residents shortly after midnight on Monday. The toxic gas spread to nearby residential areas, resulting in breathing problems and widespread panic. Officials reported that several individuals were taken to hospitals for treatment following the incident.
In response, security personnel evacuated residents within a 200-meter radius to safer locations and established a cordon around the affected zone. Civic fire personnel, along with teams from Orange City Water Pvt Ltd and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), were deployed to manage the situation. The leak was eventually plugged around 5:30 am, and the cylinder was safely neutralized by placing it in a tank with caustic soda solution.
