A tragic electrocution incident near a Ganpati pandal in Mumbai's Lalbaug area resulted in two fatalities, including an eight-year-old girl, and injuries to four others. The event transpired around 2:20 am on Sunday near the Kalachowki Vibhag Sarvajanik Utsav Mandal.
Officials reported a suspected short circuit near a temporary drinking water stall close to the pandal entrance. This led to electric current spreading through the vicinity, causing the electrocutions. Emergency services responded promptly, disconnecting power and cordoning off the area.
Among the deceased were eight-year-old Ragini Yadav and 33-year-old Sujata. Three teenagers, aged 19, were reported stable, while a 12-year-old girl remained in critical condition in the ICU. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the exact cause of the short circuit.
This incident occurred amidst large crowds celebrating the Ganesh festival in Lalbaug and Kalachowki. It follows another death in the Lalbaug area on September 17, where a Pune-based engineer died of cardiac arrest while waiting for darshan at Lalbaugcha Raja.
