Emergency responders in Gyirong county, Shigatse city, have adopted new roles to support ongoing mudslide relief efforts following the Aug 26 disaster. Ma Hua, an emergency responder typically involved in air transfers of critically ill patients, has transitioned to cooking for rescue workers. His team joined a catering vehicle provided by the Red Cross Society of Xizang Autonomous Region.
This mobile kitchen, stationed at a local hospital, has been serving three free meals daily since Sunday, having already provided more than 1,500 portions. The Red Cross, alongside seven emergency responders, is ensuring adequate meal supplies for the dispatched medical aid teams, which include specialists in emergency care, orthopedics, and psychology.
Responders like Qi Youpeng, who usually provides first aid, are now assisting with food preparation, chopping vegetables and cooking. Meals are also distributed to truck drivers and sanitation workers, ensuring that all personnel engaged in the demanding recovery work receive necessary nourishment. This collaborative effort highlights the flexibility and dedication of rescue teams.
