Nearby towns like Chokwe are almost entirely underwater, with streets in the provincial capital, Xai-Xai, resembling rivers.
The disaster has also ravaged infrastructure, with 152 kilometers of roads destroyed and over 3,000 kilometers damaged. Authorities warn that rains in southern Zimbabwe will further exacerbate the situation in Gaza province, with a countrywide red alert warning in effect.
