Moviegoers Drown in Canal After Failed Ticket Hunt

On Sunday, October 1st, 2023, two young men from Mudgal town, Venkatesh (28) and Yellalinga (28), visited Maski town to watch the Kannada movie 'Kantara'. However, they were unable to secure tickets for the noon screening. To pass the time until the evening show, the two decided to go for a swim in a nearby canal.
Tragically, Yellalinga, who was not a strong swimmer, found himself caught in a strong current and was being swept away. Venkatesh, in a heroic attempt to rescue his friend, also drowned as he tried to pull Yellalinga to safety. Their bodies were eventually recovered from the canal near Sirawar.
A case has been registered at the Maski police station, and authorities are investigating the incident. The local community is in shock over the untimely deaths of the two young men, who had come to Maski for a simple movie outing that ended in a devastating tragedy.
