4 May
Summary
- Dozens of homes remain under a boil water advisory through the week.
- A construction error contaminated the water supply with bacteria.
- City offers resources like lodging and water delivery to residents.

A construction error on April 24 has led to a boil water advisory for dozens of homes in Mountain View, which is expected to continue through the current week. The incident occurred when cement slurry mix from a contractor's project to replace a water main came into contact with a live water line near Bonita Avenue and Cuesta Drive.
As of Sunday, May 4, 2026, tests revealed low levels of coliform bacteria in the water serving homes on Drucilla Drive and Carla Court. While E. Coli has not been detected, the city has issued a "Do Not Use" order for this localized area.
Officials have stated that the boil water advisory is not anticipated to be lifted before May 9, 2026. Impacted residents are being offered resources such as temporary lodging, shower access, drinking water delivery, and reimbursement for meal and incidental expenses. The city clarified that tap water can be used for showering, hand washing, laundry, and dishwashers, but must be boiled for at least one minute before cooking or drinking.
