On October 19, 2025, two people were injured in a motorcycle explosion in Cuttack, India. The incident occurred around 7:30 pm near the Chauliaganj market, where the victims, Ramachandra Padhi (21) and Sampad Parida (30), were reportedly transporting fireworks on their two-wheeler.
Preliminary investigation suggests that lit fireworks from nearby celebrations accidentally landed on their vehicle, igniting the firecrackers stored in the moped and triggering a sudden explosion. The blast caused panic in the area, prompting local residents to rush to the victims' aid before police and fire personnel arrived.
The explosion also damaged part of the motorcycle and the shutter of a nearby roadside shop. Eyewitnesses stated that the entire incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera, which showed the motorcycle bursting into flames within seconds.
The injured individuals were immediately rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Police have collected samples from the site and are verifying the source of the fireworks, including whether they were locally made or licensed. Authorities have appealed to people to avoid transporting fireworks on vehicles and to handle them with utmost caution during the festive season.
