The group, last seen leaving Butte on the evening of June 23, had embarked on a fishing trip. Their Ford Ranger became disabled, prompting an urgent search by multiple county rescue teams.
The situation carried added urgency as three of the four boys required daily insulin. Fortunately, a rescue helicopter from Malmstrom Air Force Base spotted the group on June 24. The father, described as an experienced outdoorsman, was with his teenage sons and a cousin.
They were found walking near Maney Lake and were subsequently transported to a hospital in Butte. Authorities expressed relief and gratitude for the collaborative efforts of the rescuers from Jefferson, Anaconda-Deer Lodge, Powell, and Silver Bow counties, ensuring everyone returned safely.
