Summary

- A body was recovered from the river shortly after the vehicle.
- Rescue efforts were challenged by river tides and deep water.
RCMP in Moncton are investigating a fatal incident where an SUV entered the Petitcodiac River on Friday. The vehicle veered into the water early Friday morning, prompting a large-scale response from emergency services.
First responders, including police, firefighters, and paramedics from Moncton, Dieppe, and Riverview, were dispatched to the scene after reports of the vehicle submerging. The search for the SUV proved difficult due to strong tides and the river's depth, with helicopters, drones, and boats deployed to aid the operation.
As the tide receded, dive teams successfully located the submerged vehicle several hundred metres upstream from where it entered the river. Shortly after the SUV was found, a body was recovered from the water. Authorities have not yet released information regarding the identity of the deceased or the circumstances that led to the vehicle entering the river. The vehicle was later pulled from the riverbank, and the scene was cleared by Friday afternoon.
