Steph Alger, a mother who experienced the profound loss of her 18-year-old son, Etienne, has channeled her grief into a compassionate initiative. After her son's fatal car crash in June 2020, caused by speeding and a damaged tire, Steph found herself unable to provide the care she wished for in his final moments.
Motivated by this lack of resources, Steph and her family founded Just.Bathe. This charity creates and delivers specially designed bathing packs to adult critical care wards. Since officially registering in June 2025, and beginning self-funding efforts in 2022, the organization has distributed 140 boxes to 14 hospitals across the UK.
Their goal is to ensure all adult critical care wards, which accommodate individuals aged 16 and older, receive these comfort packs within the next few years. Steph is also actively campaigning for safer driving practices. Derbyshire Police are using a video of her recounting the impact of her son's death to deter speeding drivers, with 91% of those who viewed it expressing a desire to reduce their speed.
