Summary
- Mother Wendy Hinan met her newborn daughter, Verena, after a severe collision.
- Hinan and Verena are recovering in separate Toronto hospitals.
- A GoFundMe for the family has raised nearly $275,000.
In a deeply emotional moment two weeks after a tragic collision, Wendy Hinan met her newborn daughter, Verena, for the first time. This significant event offered a glimmer of hope for the family still reeling from the loss of their two-year-old son, Devereaux.
Hinan, who was seven months pregnant at the time of the crash on January 7, required an emergency C-section. Both she and her baby, Verena, were initially in critical condition. They are currently receiving care at separate Toronto hospitals: St. Michael's for Wendy and Sick Kids for Verena.
While Wendy is expected to recover, she may face permanent mobility issues. Verena, who experienced oxygen deprivation, has a significant head injury but is reportedly doing as well as can be expected. The driver of the van that caused the collision, a 43-year-old, also died from their injuries.
