An Indian-American couple, Anjana Raja and Pattabiram Venkatesan, recounted their harrowing escape from a devastating avalanche in Tibet. The event, which occurred recently, was described by Raja as a "dark black tsunami," with Venkatesan adding that "a monster thing" came down the mountain. They were on a tour bus when the avalanche struck, prompting them to jump off and flee.
Venkatesan described seeing "death right in front of my eyes" as homes were swept away by the debris. The couple, with the help of a guide, undertook a difficult and treacherous climb up a nearby mountain to safety. They described the ascent as narrow, slippery, and filled with mud and rocks.
They spent the night huddled in a goat shed alongside other survivors, comprising both local residents and tourists. The following day, they were airlifted to safety. Thankfully, everyone on their tour bus survived the catastrophic event. Their son, Vikram Ravi, expressed profound relief and gratitude for his parents' miraculous survival.
