A significant 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck the southern Philippine island of Mindanao early Monday, resulting in at least five fatalities and triggering extensive tsunami warnings.
Authorities issued evacuation orders for nine provinces, including Sarangani, Davao Occidental, Tawi-Tawi, and Sulu, advising residents to seek higher ground. Similar evacuation advisories were enacted in Indonesia for northern Sulawesi, northern Gorontalo, and the Sangihe Islands.
Tsunami alerts were broadcast across the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan, Micronesia, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center warned of potential waves up to 3 meters (9.8 feet) in the Philippines and up to 1 meter (3.3 ft) in parts of Indonesia and Malaysia.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development reported the availability of over 1.1 million family food packs in Mindanao and millions more nationwide, with quick response teams on standby.
