5 Mar
Summary
- Nearly 37 million pounds of frozen foods are recalled.
- Four customers reported finding glass fragments in their food.
- Contaminated carrots were identified as the source of the glass.

Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc. has significantly expanded a recall, now encompassing almost 37 million pounds of frozen chicken and pork fried rice, ramen, and shu mai dumpling products. This urgent Class I recall was initiated after at least four consumers discovered glass shards in their food, raising concerns about serious health risks, including choking and internal injuries.
The affected products, produced between October 2024 and February 2026 with best-by dates up to August 2027, were distributed across the United States and even exported to Canada and Mexico. The recall initially covered a smaller quantity but was broadened to include 16 different items sold under familiar brand names such as Ajinomoto, Kroger, Ling Ling, Tai Pei, and Trader Joe's.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) traced the source of the glass contamination to specific batches of carrots that were incorporated into multiple food items during production. While no injuries have been confirmed, the FSIS strongly advises consumers to discard the recalled products or return them to their place of purchase to prevent potential harm.
