Miami Warehouse Fire: Cleanup & Smoke Concerns Linger
11 Mar
Summary
- Firefighters still on scene at warehouse days after blaze ignited.
- Smoky conditions persist, affecting nearby neighborhoods daily.
- Investigation into the cause of the massive warehouse fire is ongoing.

Firefighters continue to battle a massive blaze at a northwest Miami-Dade warehouse, five days after it first erupted. Crews are actively working on containment and have begun demolition of the heavily damaged 548,000-square-foot structure, operated by Global Warehouse Solutions. The fire, which began on Thursday, March 5, at a warehouse located near Miami Gardens, has left a significant environmental impact.
Residents living near the site, like Terrell Banyard who has resided in the neighborhood for over 25 years, report persistent smoky conditions. Banyard expressed concern over the potential long-term health effects of the lingering smoke, stating he now avoids spending time at home due to the fumes. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection confirmed the warehouse property is state-owned and was leased under a long-term agreement.
Demolition crews are working 12-hour shifts to remove debris and facilitate firefighter access to remaining hot spots. Environmental officials advise residents that smoke may intensify, particularly starting at 6 p.m. The Environmental Protection Agency has issued recommendations for those affected. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue has not yet determined the cause of the fire, and the investigation remains ongoing.
