Summary

Nearly 40 flights experienced diversions on Sunday due to escalating cartel violence across parts of Mexico. This disruption led to thousands of passengers unexpectedly waking up in different cities. The majority of the diverted flights, totaling 30, were bound for Puerto Vallarta, a prominent resort destination on the Pacific coast.
In addition to the diversions, approximately 370 flights in and out of Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara faced cancellations on Sunday and Monday. Nine flights were diverted to Guadalajara, with one Aeromexico flight from Madrid experiencing an extended diversion of nearly 11 hours before landing in Monterey. While airports remained open, US authorities noted that roadblocks were the cause of cancellations in Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta, advising their citizens to shelter in place.
