Two men were rescued from a remote fishing spot near Senatobia, Mississippi, last Friday after suffering from severe heat exhaustion. Shervon Wooten recounted that he and his companions had to hike approximately three miles to reach Gravel Springs Creek. After only about 20 to 30 minutes of fishing, both of his cousins became unwell, with one experiencing severe dehydration and cramps, and the other exhibiting symptoms of extreme heat exhaustion.
Emergency services, including fire departments, sheriff's deputies, and EMS, responded to the 911 call. Due to the challenging terrain and the men's inability to walk, rescuers utilized ATVs and drones to locate and extricate them. Wooten emphasized the importance of sufficient hydration and caution during the current heatwave, with temperatures expected to remain in the upper 90s. He advised people to avoid being outdoors if possible and to recognize the signs of heat exhaustion, such as heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, and cramps.
