2 Mar
Summary
- Charges were dropped against a driver rushing a child to the hospital.
- A state trooper initiated a pursuit believing it was a traffic stop.
- The trooper was unaware of the child's medical emergency at the time.

Arkansas State Police have backed a prosecutor's decision to drop charges against a driver who was stopped on February 20th following a pursuit in downtown Little Rock. The driver, the parent of a child experiencing a medical emergency, was attempting to reach a nearby hospital at the time.
A state trooper initiated a traffic stop on Interstate 630 around 8:28 a.m., which escalated to a tactical vehicle intervention when the driver failed to pull over. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.
Authorities later learned of the child's critical condition. The trooper, unaware of the emergency, immediately requested an ambulance, which transported the child for medical attention. The agency's Office of Professional Standards Division is investigating the event.
Arkansas State Police Director Col. Mike Hagar emphasized the importance of communication when transporting someone during a medical crisis. The agency advises calling 911, identifying the vehicle, and providing the destination and route if possible, while also stressing the need to stop for law enforcement.
