MCD Acts on 12 B&Bs Post-Flourish Stay Fire
4 Jun
Summary
- MCD seeks cancellation of 12 Hauz Rani B&B licences.
- A fire at Flourish Stay killed 21 people recently.
- Sealing drive expands to unsafe buildings in South Delhi.

In response to a fatal fire at Flourish Stay that resulted in 21 deaths, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is moving to cancel licences for 12 bed-and-breakfast establishments in the Hauz Rani area. This action is part of a broader crackdown on commercial properties operating unsafely in South Delhi.
The MCD plans to formally request the Tourism department to revoke the licences of these 12 identified B&Bs. Once their licences are rescinded, these properties will be sealed.
The intensified enforcement follows a tragic building collapse in Saket on May 30, which killed six people. The MCD has now expanded its drive, issuing 32 additional notices to vacate to owners of properties operating in violation of regulations in the South Zone.
Flourish Stay, located in a Lal Dora area, was reportedly operating with 25 rooms despite having permission for only six under the B&B scheme and lacked sanctioned building plans. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
