- He called 112 helpline while floating to request rescue.
- Rescuers located and saved him after an hour-long search.

A 24-year-old man from Bhat village in Gandhinagar attempted suicide by jumping into the Sabarmati river near Karai Canal in the early hours of February 15, 2026. Overwhelmed by heartbreak, he entered the water around 3:35 AM, but quickly regretted his decision.
He managed to use his waterproof phone to call the 112 helpline from the river, guiding rescuers to his location. The control room immediately alerted fire services, dispatching a team of divers and rescuers.
The rescue operation faced tense moments in the dark, with rescuers struggling to pinpoint his exact position amidst strong currents. The man, despite his exhaustion, actively guided them by phone.
After nearly an hour of searching, the team located him midstream and safely pulled him out around 4:45 AM. He was taken to a government hospital, where his condition is reported as stable. Officials noted the rarity of such a case where a suicide attempt is followed by an alert to emergency services.
