A search in Russell County concluded with the recovery of a missing Lexington man on Sunday morning. Andy Schmidt, 42, had been reported missing on August 22nd in the Lake Cumberland area. Search efforts commenced that night but were temporarily paused until the subsequent morning.
Around 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, searchers located Schmidt's body in the water. He had reportedly gone underwater and did not resurface. The Russell County Coroner pronounced Schmidt deceased at the scene shortly after 10 a.m. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, pending the results of toxicology tests.
