A 77-year-old man lost his life after drowning at Hampton Beach, located in Melbourne's southern suburbs. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene on Tuesday night, around 8:45 PM, following reports that the man had been pulled from the water and was unresponsive.
Paramedics initiated CPR immediately upon arrival. However, their resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. It is suspected that the man may have suffered a cardiac arrest while swimming.
Victoria Police have stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious. A report is being prepared for the coroner to investigate the circumstances surrounding the drowning. This incident contributes to the nine drowning deaths that have already been recorded at Australian beaches since the beginning of 2026.
