An incident occurred on a beach in the Aberdyfi area on Saturday afternoon when a man sustained a severe bleed to his arm. The injury happened as he slipped while using a knife to open a beer.
RNLI Aberdyfi's volunteer crew were tasked by HM Coastguard at 2:05 PM. Two casualty care-trained crew members assessed and treated the casualty, who had a potentially life-threatening arterial bleed. They were able to provide further treatment after members of the public had already applied pressure to the wound.
This was a multi-agency response, with community first responders, the Welsh Ambulance Service, and Wales Air Ambulance all attending the scene. The casualty was flown to a hospital for further treatment. A volunteer crew member described the call out as uncommon and stressed the importance of using appropriate tools for the job.
