Drought Crisis: Cabinet Sub-Committee Takes Charge

The Maharashtra government has established a cabinet sub-committee to confront the escalating drought-like situation across several parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule heads this committee, tasked with overseeing the state's comprehensive response to deficient rainfall.

The committee's mandate includes monitoring crop damage, assessing drinking water scarcity, and ensuring adequate livestock fodder. Following directions from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the panel will conduct district-level reviews and field visits to affected areas. They will engage directly with farmers and villagers to identify immediate needs.

Comprising nine cabinet ministers and the chief secretary, the sub-committee will meet weekly to submit detailed assessments and recommendations to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers. Their responsibilities extend to planning drinking water supply and preventing fodder shortages, aiming to bring a unified, multi-departmental approach to drought relief efforts.
