A preliminary 4.9-magnitude earthquake jolted Riverside County on Monday evening, with its epicenter located approximately 12 miles northeast of Indio. The earthquake occurred around 5:56 p.m. local time and had a shallow depth of about 2 miles. Shaking from the tremor was widely felt, extending across the Los Angeles region and into San Diego County.
Following the initial quake, several aftershocks were registered, with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.4, according to geological surveys. Officials initially reported a slightly different magnitude before revising it to the final 4.9. Despite the seismic activity, there were no immediate reports of any damage to infrastructure or injuries to residents.
