A multi-vehicle crash involving fifteen vehicles occurred on the M73 in North Lanarkshire shortly before midnight. The incident necessitated a response from emergency services, with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service deploying three fire appliances and a heavy rescue unit.
Five individuals sustained injuries requiring hospitalization. Two patients were transported to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, while two children were admitted to the adjoining Royal Hospital for Children. A fifth patient was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Three other individuals received medical attention at the scene.
Authorities closed the M73 northbound between Junction 2 (Gartcosh) and Junction 3 following the collision. The road remained closed for several hours, with operations concluding and the carriageway reopening just before 04:00 on Monday. The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed the deployment of six ambulances and two special operations units to manage the emergency.
