A new super-luxury yacht, the Angiola II, sank off the coast of Porto Cervo, Sardinia, on Tuesday. The vessel, valued at $9.1 million, had only recently been delivered to its owner. The incident occurred when the yacht experienced engine failure, which ignited a fire. This blaze damaged critical seals, causing the yacht to rapidly take on water and ultimately tip onto its side before sinking.
All 14 guests on board were safely rescued by passing vessels. The owner, an Italian businessman, was the last to leave the ship. The Angiola II went down in approximately 23 feet of water near L'Isola dei Cappuccini. Recovery operations are pending, with the sunken vessel being monitored until it can be retrieved from the seabed. The yacht was capable of reaching speeds of 28 knots and accommodated 10 guests with five cabins, supported by five crew members.
