Stray Cattle Hazard on Dugri Link: Commuters in Danger
26 Jul
Summary
- Stray cattle on Dugri Missing Link-2 create dangerous traffic conditions.
- Ludhiana recorded over 12,000 dog-bite cases in 2025.
- Authorities promise to shift stray animals to local gaushalas.

A growing number of stray cattle on Ludhiana's Dugri Missing Link-2 and Dhandran Road are creating serious safety hazards for commuters. Market associations have highlighted the increased risk since a flyover opened last year, leading to a surge in traffic on these routes. At night, eight to ten stray animals are frequently observed roaming and even fighting in the middle of the road, severely impacting visibility and driver safety. This situation has already caused traffic disruptions. Residents are calling for the immediate relocation of these cattle to nearby gaushalas to mitigate potential accidents.
Beyond cattle, Ludhiana is also struggling with a significant stray dog population. Statistics from the civil hospital reveal a startling increase in dog-bite incidents, with over 12,000 cases recorded in 2025 and more than 7,700 reported by July 22 of the current year. Local authorities have acknowledged the problem and assured residents that swift action will be taken. This includes shifting stray animals to cow sheds and strengthening overall stray animal management, alongside intensified sterilization and vaccination programs for stray dogs. The aim is to ensure the safety of both the public and the animals.
