Lucknow's Heatwave: Power Cuts Plague City
19 May
Summary
- Rising temperatures caused transformer overloads leading to city-wide power disruptions.
- Fazullaganj faced prolonged outages due to overloaded transformers and public interference.
- Residents protested power cuts amid extreme heat and water shortages.

Large parts of Lucknow, including the Gomtinagar area, have been experiencing persistent electricity disruptions for the past three days due to soaring temperatures. Transformer overloads and technical faults have led to repeated power failures across multiple city zones.
Fazullaganj was severely affected when a 630 KVA transformer became overloaded, causing fuse failures and extended outages. Repair efforts were hampered by public interference at the substation, leading to further complications and cascading failures in adjoining areas.
Multiple incidents of wire snapping and transformer faults on various 33 KV and 11 KV lines across Jankipuram, Mahanagar, and Gomtinagar zones caused further supply interruptions. Emergency shutdowns were also enacted due to equipment damage.
Residents in areas like Nadarganj and Rajajipuram protested against the prolonged power cuts, which exacerbated the discomfort of the extreme heat and led to water shortages. Similar power crises were reported in Kakori, where residents protested a four-day blackout.
