In a dramatic incident that unfolded on October 31, 2025, a loco pilot's quick thinking and swift action prevented a tragic accident on the Delhi-Howrah rail route in Auraiya district. The train, traveling from the Etawah side, was approaching Achhalda railway station when the loco pilot spotted a man standing on the tracks. Immediately, the loco pilot brought the train to a halt, averting a potential disaster.
The station master at Achhalda railway station was promptly informed about the incident, and he immediately alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF). RPF personnel Rakesh Kumar and Ajay Chauhan rushed to the scene and persuaded the man to move away from the tracks. During questioning, the man was identified as Updesh Kumar, a resident of Gurkhunda village in the Bidhuna police station area.
Updesh Kumar revealed that he had been making repeated visits to a fertilizer center in Nevil Ganj for several days, but had been unable to obtain the much-needed DAP fertilizer for his lahi and potato crops. Frustrated by his inability to secure the necessary supplies, Updesh had resorted to the desperate measure of attempting suicide on the railway tracks.
The quick-thinking actions of the loco pilot and the prompt response of the RPF officers likely saved Updesh Kumar's life. The department officials have assured to provide the necessary fertilizer to the distressed farmer, addressing the root cause of his anguish. This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by farmers and the importance of timely intervention to prevent such tragic occurrences.
