LIRR Suspends All Service Due to Extreme Weather

The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) is set to completely suspend all service beginning at 1 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2026. This decision comes in response to a severe snowstorm forecasted to bring extreme velocity winds to eastern Long Island. The suspension is a proactive measure by the MTA to enable crews to concentrate on snow-clearing operations.
Reduced service on the Port Jefferson, Port Washington, and Babylon Branch lines will commence at 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2026. Furthermore, travel bans will be implemented across Nassau and Suffolk Counties starting at 9 p.m. Sunday, lifting at 9 a.m. Monday. New York City will also experience a travel ban from 9 p.m. Sunday until 12 p.m. Monday. In anticipation of the storm's impact, numerous schools on Long Island and within New York City are scheduled to close on Monday.
