Summary

- Swiss prosecutors found no criminal suspicion in the accident.
- Byrne was a highly experienced flyer with thousands of jumps.
An investigation into the fatal wingsuit jump of British champion Liam Byrne, 24, in the Swiss Alps has concluded without any criminal charges. Byrne, from Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, sustained fatal injuries after taking off from the Gitschen mountain last year.
Documents from the Swiss Federal Prosecutor's Office confirmed the discontinuation of proceedings. The report indicated insufficient evidence of criminal suspicion, such as knowingly endangering life. The fatal crash was deemed highly probable to be an inescapable situation caused by insufficient lift and low altitude.
Byrne was described as a very experienced wingsuit flyer, having completed thousands of jumps and even featuring in a 2024 BBC documentary titled 'The Boy Who Can Fly.' His family remembered him as fearless, stating his passion for skydiving and base jumping represented freedom and made him feel most alive.
