Tragedy struck an under-construction residential building in Matunga early on Thursday when a 37-year-old labourer lost his life in a fall. The victim sustained severe brain and chest fractures after plummeting from the sixth floor into an open lift shaft.
The deceased, identified as Sanjay Minj, was visiting his maternal nephew, Prakash Bakla, a fitter working at the Trimukh Shantikunj site. Minj had reportedly gone to sleep on the sixth floor of the building, which is being developed by Tridhaatu Renovators Private Limited.
Around 1 AM, Minj awoke to use the restroom and accidentally fell through the unguarded elevator shaft. Alerted by another individual on the ground floor, labourers discovered Minj had fallen and rushed him to Sion Hospital. Despite their efforts, doctors pronounced him dead shortly after admission.
