LA Flooded: Beverly Grove Water Main Bursts
3 Aug
Summary
- An 8-inch cast iron pipe burst, flooding Beverly Grove streets.
- Repairs were estimated for completion by 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
- This incident is the latest in a string of LA water infrastructure failures.

A significant water main break inundated the streets of Los Angeles's affluent Beverly Grove neighborhood early Sunday morning. The incident, reported around 4:48 a.m., involved an 8-inch cast iron pipe and caused water to rush through the roadway.
Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) crews were dispatched to the scene near San Vicente Boulevard and Lyndenhurst Avenue. As of 2:10 p.m. on Sunday, repairs were ongoing, with an estimated restoration time of 2:30 p.m. The break affected 10 services, and a section of San Vicente Boulevard was closed.
This flooding incident is the latest in a pattern of water infrastructure failures across the greater Los Angeles area. It follows a major rupture on July 16 that released millions of gallons of water and caused extensive damage in West Hollywood. Other recent breaks have occurred in West Hollywood and Jefferson Park.
LADWP stated that while Los Angeles experiences two to four water main breaks daily, its systemwide leak rate is below the national average. The utility has reportedly tripled its mainline replacement efforts over the past two decades.
