A formidable force of 15,000 volunteers is set to bolster disaster risk management for the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela in 2027. This trained cadre will serve as a vital resource, extending their support to district-level disaster response efforts even after the massive religious gathering concludes.
These volunteers will be equipped as community-based first responders, working alongside civil defence personnel, police, and municipal emergency teams. Their primary focus will be on crowd management during significant bathing days, preventing bottlenecks, and responding to panic situations.
Beyond crowd control, the volunteers will provide basic first aid, assist in search-and-rescue operations, and manage shelter camps. They will also operate information centers and help reunite lost family members, contributing to overall pilgrim safety and comfort.
Following the Kumbh Mela, the administration plans to integrate this trained volunteer network into the district's permanent disaster management infrastructure. This initiative aims to ensure a more rapid response to various emergencies, including floods, fires, and extreme weather events across Nashik district.
