A 42-year-old woman has tragically died in Kolkata after her car accidentally drove into a pond while she was practicing her driving skills. The incident took place in the Prafulla Kanan (West) area of Kestopur.
Sumitra Das had recently taken her car out for practice after dropping her daughter at school. Reports suggest that as a novice driver, she mistakenly applied the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to speed directly into the pond.
The car was completely submerged, and a lengthy rescue operation by the fire department and police ensued. Tragically, Sumitra was found deceased inside the vehicle after it was retrieved from the water, having possibly attempted to escape.
Her husband had recently bought the car, and Sumitra was preparing for a driving licence test scheduled for August 22. Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
